What Does AGCP Certification Mean?

The AGCP has some of the very best custom clubfitters (club fitters) in the world. Our club makers produce only the best custom golf clubs from the highest quality custom components. Our boutique brands are some of t he best club designs in the world, bar none. If you need a custom driver, a set of custom irons, custom fairways, hybrids, or wedges our AGCP certified custom club fitters and clubmakers can satisfy your needs.

If you love golf clubs and you want to be a club maker, custom clubfitter and you want the best training in the world join our organization. Our member only email list is operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year to answer your questions and help you learn. Our RT Convention is going on 15 years old now and each fall we gather in Columbus, Georgia for 3 or 4 days and spend all of our waking hours in class or in the conference room of the hotel discussing custom fitting, custom building and all aspects of operating a business. You get to meet some of the best in the world and have them as mentors all year long by simply picking up the phone or sending an email, or test message.

AGCP Member Certification is based on 10 Levels of qualification. Qualification requirements are designed to allow potential customers to judge the members knowledge, experience, education and the equipment the member has in their shop so they can judge the quality and extent of services offered by the member.

NOTE: Only AGCP members can be certified. You will have to look for the application for certification on the Members Only pages.

All AGCP members are required to pass an essay test and submit photos of their shop along with copies or photos of their school diplomas and certification certificates from various schools or organizations. Our test was written by and/or reviewed by a group of AGCP Masters of Golf Club Technology and other industry leaders including Tom Wishon.

Out test is designed to determine how much a clubfitter/club builder knows about his craft and not to determine if he can look up answers in a book. Our graders will have to be convinced that the member answers in his own words and he truly knows and understands the answers he is giving. Clarification is sometimes required to convince the grader that the member is knowledgeable about the material and capable of performing it in his shop. The AGCP test is designed to help insure golfers that the person they are going to trust really has the ability to do what the golfer needs him to do.

If you are highly qualified by other organizations you can apply for an oral quiz by one of the AGCP Masters to determine your eligibility for a waiver of the written essay portion of the test. If the Master agrees with your waiver you can become certified by paying the fees and submitting proof of equipment only. All that you will be required to do outside of the oral quiz is to send in the photos of your shop and equipment.

If you are joining the AGCP for the first time and want to get certified you can order your certification test after you have been a member for one year and renew your membership. But, be sure and read the requirements before you order your test. You can upgrade your certification level at any time by simply applying for the upgrade, paying the required upgrade fees and meeting the requirements for upgrading to the desired level. This may require a few questions about your upgrade and what you did to upgrade and a few pictures if it involves additional equipment needed. Simply buying a camera for instance does not mean you are now and expert in video recognition of things needed to be a better fitter. You will need to verify your additional knowledge as well as your additional equipment.

AGCP Certification is only available to AGCP members and requires continuing membership in the AGCP to remain certified. If you leave the AGCP your certification will terminate with you. If you return you will need to pay a recertification fee. Part of the certification requirements is to be active as a member and participate in the daily email list for members. Any member who leaves the AGCP for a period of 1 calendar year will lose their certification and will have to recertify to gain their certification again.
